Karlina Paredes was born and raised in the Bay Area, earning her bachelor’s degree from San Jose State University in 2008 and her Juris Doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law in 2011. 

 

Ms. Paredes specializes in contentious custody matters, cases with substantial assets under review for valuation and division, and consulting through mediation. She also excels at complex case management, routinely handling all areas of family law, including but not limited to pre- and post-judgment cases, dissolutions, parentage actions, property characterization, valuation, and division, disclosures, income, child and spousal support, business valuations, goodwill, structured buyouts, fiduciary duties, premarital and post marital agreements, domestic violence, custody, move-aways, attorney fees, international child abductions, mediation, and enforcement issues. She has expertise in the characterization, valuation, and division of complex assets including restricted stock units, stock, stock options, professional practices, corporations, and routinely addresses separate property tracing, misappropriation of assets, and mixed character assets.

Ms. Paredes is comfortable in any legal environment, such as depositions, mediations, collaborative dissolutions, settlement conferences, and high-stakes trials in the courtroom, both in public and private courts. The volume and variety of casework she handles has provided her more practical experience than most attorneys have achieved with similar years of practice. She is a formidable opponent and possesses a tactical and strategic approach, always taking her client’s goals and best interest into consideration every step of the way. Her priority is to ensure her clients understand the law as applied to their specific factual situation as they navigate through this period in their lives. Throughout her career, Ms. Paredes has emerged to become a highly visible and valued leader within the legal community.

In September 2022, Ms. Paredes earned the prestigious status of Certified Family Law Specialist, an honor by the California State Bar bestowed upon only approximately 10% of family law attorneys. The State Bar Certification helps the public identify attorneys who have demonstrated proficiency in specialized fields of law, requiring a written examination, significant experience drafting documents and addressing matters from inception to completion, and been favorably evaluated by other attorneys and judges familiar with their work. Recently, Ms. Paredes has been instrumental in achieving extraordinary results in a highly publicized national custody dispute. In October 2022, she delivered the keynote presentation, From The Conference Room to The Breakout Room: Mediating Amongst Changing Dynamics in a More Diverse World at the national conference of the Academy of Professional Family Mediators. In 2023, she was honored as one of Silicon Valley’s 40 under 40. Her unmatched knowledge, advocacy, and compassion in family law allows her to deliver the epitome of concierge service to all her clients. 

 

Ms. Paredes, with the unwavering support of her family, friends, and community, comes from a long line of farmworkers and was the first lawyer in her family.
